About Us

A Brief History

Sylvia and John Watts-Cherry established Advance Tutorial College, following 10 years experience in teaching at all levels. They were concerned by the increasing numbers of children getting to GCSE and 'A' levels with poor foundations and gaps in basic skills.

With the knowledge that many families could not afford 1-to-1 private tuition and that children like to be with other children to share experiences, they set one of the first private Saturday Schools in 1994 in North London to provide children with affordable educational support focussed on acquiring basic skills with the learners at the centre of the provision. Young enthusiastic tutors with fresh ideas were employed to teach alongside more experienced teachers.

Within a short time, it became evident that many families, even those who had previously sought 1-to-1 tuition, had bought into the company’s ethos. The Saturday School remained as Sylvia and John’s only provision until 2004 when parents demanded more lessons during the week and Sylvia and John were sought by organisations based in areas of regeneration and those seeking to boost achievement to help them set up after-school classes. Advance Educational Services limited was born.

The centre has a great family atmosphere and our customers speak highly of a caring and welcoming environment.
